Akram Khan says of this work: ‘It is a response to ‘A Country Doctor’ in terms of its significant parallels to cosmic chasms. The transition from a supernova into a black hole is a spectacular entropic event which mirrors the themes raised by the story. The transmutational process generates a series of life-sustaining elements such as sodium, aluminium, calcium, silicon and iron, all of which have been used to make this experimental response to Kafka’s text. These elements are layered in a frozen sculpture which is presented undertaking, and returning from, its entropic journey.’
